Sci-Ed Fact: Virtually
all the energy used
on earth comes from the sun. It is converted from light energy
to chemical energy by the process of photosynthesis. It can be
stored (in coal or oil, for example), used directly by plants,
or, secondarily, used by animals. ... Eventually, the energy
we use from the sun becomes waste heat and returns to space as
infrared radiation. Thus, we actually consume energy, but only
use it as the energy passes through our environment. (James Trefil) |
