Here are some basics for the 3com Impact and Netopia ISDN Modem. First my general disclaimer. If you need to check or change any of this info, I'd recommend that you do this in a terminal program and instead of using the Configuration Manager. This is, however, just a suggestion. Also note that the 3com Impact and the Netopia ISDN Modem are identical units. The Netopia, however is a wonderful shade of purple (pretty).
The first thing you'll need to find out is what Firmware they have. They need at least 2.01, however, the latest, as of this writing, is 2.02.
AT%V will yield the firmware revision for the product and will look like the following:
AT%V Version 2.02 OK
If they don't have the appropriate firmware, they need to get it via ftp://ftp.3com.com/pub/adapters/drivers/impct202.exe or from the 3Com bbs (408-980-8204, 408-980-8205 or 408-980-8206). You'll be able to connect to your ISP and the bbs with your 3com Impact, but you'll be limited to 56 or 64Kpbs without the new firmware.
Most everything for the 3com Impact is done via S registers.
AT%R will give you current information on the S registers and will look like the following:
AT%R REG DEC HEX REG DEC HEX S00 000 00H S63 015 0fH S50 001 01H S70 001 01H S55 112 70H S71 001 01H S56 255 ffH S73 000 00H S57 000 00H S74 256 100H S58 000 00H S75 000 00H S59 001 01H S80 001 01H S60 064 40H S82 005 05H S61 000 00H S84 001 01H S51S52 S53 S54 S65 S66 S81 S83 OK
I'll give you the Important ones here.
ATS50= sets the switch type.
ATS50=1 sets a switch type of AT&T 5ESS Custom.
ATS50=3 sets a switch type of NI-1/AT&T 5ESS (National ISDN)
ATS50=6 sets a switch type of NI-1/DMS 100
ATS51= sets the first DN (Directory Number).
ATS52= sets the first SPID (Service Profile IDentifier)
ATS53= sets the second DN.
ATS54= sets the second SPID.
ATS60= sets the B channel Rate (either 56 or 64)
ATS61= sets the call type (you'll want set to 2 for ISDN)
ATS71= sets the B channel protocol.
ATS71=0 for Quickselect (Quick Select decides, theoretically, if the call is PPP or V.120).ATS80= sets MutliLink PPP on or off.
ATS71=1 for Async-sync PPP conversion.
ATS71=2 for V.120.
ATS80=0 disables MLPPP.
ATS80=1 enables MLPPP.
So, in brief, if you want to connect with MLPPP to a Ziplink account you use the following string:
ATS71=1S80=1If you want to connect via one channel, you'd simply use
ATS71=0S80=0&D2You can put in whatever other standard Hayes commands you would normally put in for a modem (save sound and bps registers). I'd recommend that you always turn on normal DTE (Data Terminal Equipment) operation on manually with the &D2. This will insure that the TA hangs up when you tell it to.
