For your edification, "Virtual Service" is when the CO you are served out
of is not set up for ISDN and they must virtually serve you out of another
CO. This will mainly be the case when you have a more remote CO, such as
in Lowell, MA.
Things to note about Nynex ISDN are that they do not tarriff for voice transmissions over ISDN, so one can initiate a DOVB (Data Over Voice Bearer) call to ZipLink at 56Kbps and not be subject to normal ISDN per minute tolls. These can not be, however, Multiplexed so this trick is limited to 56K. Also, there is an Aproximate 2-5 week turn around time for ISDN service.
Ameritech serves the greater Chicago region. Their ISDN pricing is not as simple as Nynex. Things are broken into A, B and C regions. One will have to determine which area he lives in by calling Ameritech (though they will undoubtedly already know as these apply to POTS lines too).
Install fees for ISDN service in Ameritech territory run $135 for all three areas and monthly fees are $28.05, $31.03 and $34.50 respectively.
Tariffs range from 1.5 to 3.5 cents per minute per line with no voice/data distinction so DOVB would serve no purpose in this area.
