Domain Names on ZipLink

A domain name, such as ziplink.net, is simply a name used to identify a machine or network on the Internet.

Though you don't necessarily need to have your own domain name to have a presence on the Net, many businesses, organizations, and even individuals, often set up one for their activities. For example, if you wanted your company to have a more professional appearance online, you could have e-mail for orders go to sales@yourcompany.com, or have a Web site at www.yourcompany.com.

If you decide you would prefer your own domain name, or you already have one, ZipLink can host it for you.

You can start the process of registering or modifying your domain name with ZipLink by calling Customer Support at 978-551-8888. Please note we do need to charge a one-time fee for this service. At the time of your call our Specialists can explain the costs and services available for domain hosting.

New or Modify (Transfer) Registration of Domain Name

You can proceed with a new registration (or modify of a domain) on your own by filling out the form at the InterNIC Web site (InterNIC is the Internet's central registration agency -- see end of this page for links to InterNIC's registration site).

For a New registration, make sure to fill out the InterNIC form completely, and supply a brief description of your company or organization. For a Modify of a domain name to ZipLink, fill in the fields that pertain to the modification and a brief description of the reason for the change (i.e. change to the domain name server addresses and the technical contact when switching to another ISP). Here are some definitions that should help you better understand the domain registration process.

When preparing for hosting your domain on ZipLink, for either New or Modify, supply the following information in the appropriate fields:

Complete domain name:
Valid characters for a domain name are letters, numbers, and the dash (" - "). A dash cannot appear at the beginning or end of a domain name. A domain name can be up to 26 characters long; this includes the dot and the following three characters used to identify the domain hierarchy (.NET, .COM, .ORG -- .ORG is typically reserved for nonprofit organizations).

Administrative and Billing contact
Please be sure to fill out the information for these fields, and supply a valid email address. The information contained here is pertinent in the authorization process the InterNIC uses, as well as the link contacting you and/or the organization using (owning) the domain name.

Technical contact:
NIC Handle: DOM21-ORG
(This is ZipLink's registered NIC "handle", and is the only field you need to enter information for technical contact - the rest will be filled in automatically by the InterNIC)

Nameservers:
PICNIC.ZIPLINK.NET    206.15.168.65
BEATNIC.ZIPLINK.NET    206.15.168.69

After submitting the form you should receive an email from the InterNIC that incorporates the registration. This must be sent back to the originating address at the InterNIC or the registration will not occur. There will then be a followup reply from the InterNIC stating your form has been received, providing a tracking number. Use this number at the InterNIC's site to track the progress of your request.

Be sure to contact us once your registration or modification has been completed if you plan to use your domain at ZipLink. Again, our Support department is available to explain the services we can offer along with hosting your domain.
