- Does Ziplink support 33.6 connections?

Q. I have a 33.6 or 28.8 but I connect at 26000 why?
A. Ziplink uses Ascend Maxes as modems. When you connect to an Ascend it will be
very conservative with the connection speed. While you stay connected the Ascend
will attempt to increase that rate. Usually you will find that your speed has gotten
better. You will see this in downloads.
Q. What type of modems does Ziplink use?
A. Ziplink doesn't use racks of modems. Ziplink has Ascend Maxes and will
be moving to Ascend TNT's. Rockwell supplies the code that the cards on these
machines use to allow modem connections. These machines can also take ISDN connections.
Q. Does Ziplink support 33.6 connections?
A. Yes the Ascends that Ziplink uses support 33.6. When Rockwell
puts out the code for 56 Kbps Ziplink will be able to support that.
There isn't a standard for 56 yet so when Ziplink begins to support
56 Kbps not all modems may work. Keep looking at Ziplink Announcements
for more information.
Q. I'm having problems staying connected, or I have problems connecting
from time to time. What can I do?
A. There isn't one answer for this question.
- First you should check
to see if you have your speed set correctly for you modem. If you have
set the speed higher than you modem. You might try setting it as close to
your modem speed as possible.
- You should see if you have the right
Init string for you modem. This is harder for there is no way to know
what type of modem that you have. It is best to check your owner's manual
to see what the manufacture recommends.
- If you have call waiting you should
disable it. Put *70 in front of the number that you are dialing to connect
to Ziplink.
- You should see if you have line noise. The best test for this
is to put a phone on the line that you are using for your modem. Pick up
the phone and dial a single number, and listen. If you hear anything at
all you have line noise. You should talk to your local phone company about
this.
- If you have anything else connected to the same jack that your modem is
using, it is best if you disconnect it. It is possible for Fax machines to
interfere with modem connections. Even a phone plugged into the back of the modem
can effect the connection.
- If all else fails you should got to Ziplink's
Connections form
