Configuring News Clients for Username/Password Authentication

Important Changes Affecting Ziplink's News Server

As of Tuesday April 27, access to Usenet (newsgroup) services will be available via username and password authentication only. Access was previously permitted based on whether or not the user was logged on to the ZipLink network. This change will allow our customers to access Usenet services from anywhere on the Internet, as well as enhance our ability to control unsolicited and/or inappropriate Usenet postings. It is important to note that:

1. ZipLink does not track the reading or posting habits of our customers. We do, however, reserve the right to check access logs for administrative purposes.
2. The username you must enter for authentication is not your email name. It is the hostname (PPP login name) and password that you use when you dial in to your account.
