Automation Technology

Automation Technology provides expertise in the development of complex engineering applications, bar coding applications, process monitoring, expert systems development, graphical user interfaces, database applications, computer based training, software conversions across computing platforms and software quality assurance.

Some of our work:

Program Description METPAC Yankee developed its own off-site dose assessment program used by Maine Yankee, Vermont Yankee, Seabrook Station, and the States of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. TLD Tracking Yankee developed barcode technologies to automate the tracking of personnel dose. SPDS Yankee developed the first Safety Parameter Display System in the U. S. nuclear industry. CoDAT Yankee developed the Component Degradation Assessment Tool expert system for Life Cycle Management of fluid systems. ADAM Yankee developed the graphical user interface to Northeast Utilities' Accident Dose Assessment Model. GET CBT Yankee developed the General Employee Training Computer Based Training program. WIPP Yankee is assisting in the software quality assurance of SANDIA Lab's Waste Isolation Pilot Plant.

METPAC

METPAC is designed to provide current estimates and predictions of dose rates for a nuclear power station immediately following an airborne radioactive release. Releases can occur on any of the following four pathways: the primary vent stack, the containment leakage, the steam line valve, and an unmonitored pathway. The location and dimensions of the resultant plume are graphically displayed, superimposed on a 10 mile radius site map which can be modified to display additional site features. The Effective Dose Equivalent (EDE) and the committed dose equivalent (CDE) to the thyroid are calculated. Protective action recommendations are also determined.

TLD Tracking

This tracking system was developed for use by Yankee's Environmental Laboratory. It enables automated tracking of some 30,000 personnel dose tracking badges (TLDs). The software was implemented to reduce manual tracking and ensure consistent quality and completeness of badge deliveries.

Yankee has also developed barcode applications for drawing management, equipment tracking and environmental sample data collection. Contact us for more details.

SPDS

Yankee's Safety Parameter Display System provides an information system for dealing with unanticipated event sequences. Information from plant sensors are provided to the control room operator by an on-line computer monitoring system using human-factored displays. Alert indicators, data trends and data plots are available for each critical safety function.

CoDAT

Yankee has developed an expert system to evaluate the Yankee fluid system components for potential age-related degradation. The expert system uses industry experience and research information to establish a conservative logic and rule base for determining the potential for degradation mechanisms acting on a component. Information obtained from CoDATis used to determine if identified degradation issues are real and if current programs acceptably manage the issues.

ADAM

ADAM is designed to provide current estimates and predictions of dose rates for a nuclear power station immediately following an airborne radioactive release. ADAM was developed to operate in an MS Windows environment using a sophisticated yet easy-to-use Graphical User Interface (GUI) which allows users to enter and edit input data, run analyses and view reports and site maps.

Yankee has developed many GUI programs including an automated means of calculating the maximum allowable service water inlet water temperature and a simulator for displaying RELAP5 results. Contact us for more details.

GET CBT

Yankee has designed Computer Based Training (CBT) for delivering requalification of General Employee Training (GET). This program has reduced classroom time for employees by about one hour and has freed instructors to provide training in other areas.

WIPP

Yankee's Software Quality Assurance support included developing software QA procedures, software testing methods, software testing and consultation in licensing (EPA and DOE) and audit support for Sandia.
