MILFORD -- The Fitchburg High boys basketball team completed its sweep of Mid-Wach A in 1995-1996 with a 63-49 win over Milford Saturday night. The Red Raiders (17-1) had to wait an extra night to play because of Friday night's snowstorm, and found themselves in a hard battle against the Scarlet Hawks (16-3). Fitchburg managed just a 33-30 lead at halftime before pulling away in the second half.
Ricky Morales was once again the spark for the Red Raiders. The junior guard knocked in a game-high 22 points. Senior guard Ray Gonzales added 12 points, including a three pointer, and senior forward Dan Schneider chipped in with 10 points as FHS improved its league record to 12-0.
Jeremy Breault was the lone player in double figures for Milford with 10 points, including a pair of three pointers. Mike Mancini and Mark DeToma had 9 apiece and Jeremy Folster 8. Milford finished with a pair of league losses, both coming against Fitchburg.
The Red Raiders end the regular season with a pair of games this week at the Academy Street Brickyard. FHS hosts Doherty Monday night and then on Wednesday takes on Holy Name, the team that handed Fitchburg its only loss of the season (63-45 on Feb. 6 in Worcester). WEIM (1280 AM) will carry both games live.
