Fitchburg High School Red Raider football will be live this fall on Fitchburg Access Television Channel 36.
FATV today announced it will carry all six FHS home games from Crocker Field beginning Friday September 13th against St. Peter Marion, and concluding with the traditional Thanksgiving Day match up with Leominster on November 21.
"We are pleased and proud that FATV, community television for and by the people of Fitchburg, will be able to carry the games live for the first time," said Paul Wieland, executive director of FATV. "This, we believe, will be the first live regular telecast coverage of high school football by community television in the state of Massachusetts."
"Thanks to the Fitchburg Schools Superintendent Dr. Philip M. Fallon, and Athletic Director Doug Crutchfield, we were able to secure telecast rights for the home schedule as an experiment for this season.
"We plan to provide four-camera coverage of the games, with some special features on each telecast," he said.
FATV's live coverage of FHS football will be produced--as are all shows on public access television-- by citizens from the community. "We believe FATV is truly Fitchburg's television "station,' its face to the world, and in the next few months we hope to make that face better known," said Wieland.
FATV will also provide intensive coverage of the annual air show later this month, and is introducing a new slogan to it's operations: "FATV-- Fitchburg Looks at Itself."
Underwriting support for the telecast of Fitchburg High School football is being sought. Wieland said Fitchburg businesses or citizens interested in providing underwriting for football or any of FATV programing efforts should call him at Fitchburg Access Television.
The football telecast schedule: Sept. 13, St. Peter Marion; Sept. 20, New Bedford; October 4, Shrewsbury; Nov. 8, North Middlesex; Nov. 15, Westboro, and Nov. 21, Leominster.
