METRATEK is a small business research and development firm located in the city of Fairfax, VA. We are a problem-solving science-based engineering firm that builds electronic systems to provide advanced technology solutions for real world problems. The name METRATEK is derived from:
- MET = Metrics, the art and science of making measurements, RA = Radar, and
- TEK = Technology
METRATEK was founded in 1984 by Raymond Harris and Dr. Leland Strom. The company was chartered as a ``C" Corporation in Delaware on July 17, 1984 and is wholly employee owned.
Mr. Harris has BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering and an MS Degree in Management Science from the Johns Hopkins University. From 1961 -1975, he worked on Navy and FAA radar development projects at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. From 1975-1984 he worked on radar development for radar cross section measurements at System Planning Corporation (SPC), where he was executive Vice President and Chief Scientist of SPC Technologies. He founded METRATEK in 1984 and is currently President and Chief Scientist.
Dr. Strom had a long and successful career that included tenure at Texas Instruments, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, and the Delphi Corporation, his consulting firm. Dr. Strom passed away in 1997.
Mr. Robert Mauer, Vice President and Business Manager, is responsible for the administrative management of the company. Mr. Mauer received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Fairleigh Dickenson University in 1968 and a MBA from Fairleigh Dickenson 1974.
