Radar for Ocean Characterization in the Littoral Zone -This effort is developing a software program that will process Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (INSAR) data and extract key ocean parameters. The ocean parameters are displayed on a WINDOWS-based electronic (CRT) display in geographical coordinates derived from the radar position using Global Positioning System satellites. The information displayed includes:
This software compliments our WINSAR radar and will be used to provide rapid real-time assessment of potential amphibious landing zones for the Navy and other information required by the METOC officer aboard the command ship.
It also has civil applications in beach erosion studies, ecological and environmental evaluations, and in oil-spill and pollutant detection and prediction. The overland version of this software will use the elevation measurement capability of INSAR to provide terrain maps with elevation contours.
The ROC/LZ program is funded by the Navy SPAWAR.
