Authentication

RADIUS (Remote Dial In User Authentication Service) is the portion of the service that allows your subscribers to access our network. When a user dials into one of our local phone numbers that will allow them to enter our network. When this happens a request will be generated to make sure that this user is your customer, and that you want to allow this customer access. Simply our authentication server will ask your radius server for permission, if permission is granted your end user will now have access to your Internet services through us. As part of the VISP package, ZipLink will enable you to maintain you RADIUS, without actually needing one. ZipLink's implementation of RADIUS will be RFC compliant and support proxy authentication and realms for integration with third party port providers.

Usenet News Service (NNTP)

Usenet News is a distributed computer conferencing system. Conferences in Usenet News are called newsgroups, and messages are called articles. There are currently over 36,000 different newsgroups or topics of conversation happening simultaneously.

Most ISP's are simply provided with a News Feed and expected to maintain their own server equipment to allow their subscribers to read and post to the newsgroups. ZipLink's news service allows your subscribers to read and post directly to ZipLink's news server eliminating the need for you or your customer to maintain any expensive network equipment.

ZipLink's News Service consists of NNTP news service support including reading and posting messages on electronic newsgroups. Management consists of NNTP performance checking, server uptime management, and NNTP management including system hardware and software upgrades and monitoring.
