![]() After reading our bio, why not check out some great photos?! The Noise from Boston calls Frazzle The Giant "smart postmodern folk-tinged rock." Others call it "sonic folk rock." Comparisons have been made from roots popsters Wilco and Cracker, to Elvis Costello, though Frazzle is not a copycat band; they are a truly unique listening experience. Frazzle The Giant was started in 1995 by Russell Chudnofsky in Northampton, Massachusetts. Chudnofsky has played guitar, bass, keyboards, and banjo with many artists including 1996 Boston Phoenix Awards Winner Amelia White, 1996 Musician Magazine’s Best Unsigned Band Winner Antihero, and Swampgirl. He currently plays with country rockers Lucky 57, featuring members of Quivver. Chudnofsky put together Frazzle The Giant with Swampgirl’s Lesley Smith, whose lush vocals are heard throughout the new CD. Their debut CD Frazzle The Giant is currently available at Newbury Comics. The CD was reported to have "a great rock ‘n’ roll sound with a post punk sensibility, a nice dose of countrified twang, and a sincere garage rock sound..." (Noise, 3/98). Much of these variations are a result of Russell Chudnofsky’s increased agility in conjuring up unthought of sounds on slide guitar. Due to committments to other creative projects, Lesley Smith was forced to leave Frazzle The Giant. She was replaced by Nicole Howard former singer with Celtic punks We Saw The Wolf. She sings with both the guts and grace of Smith, and furthermore adds her own personal signature to the songs. Additionally, the group is adorned with a most complementary rhythm section, featuring John Cahill on drums and Jay Coimbra on bass. John has been playing on and off with Russell in different bands since their early teens. John also drums for both Panhead and Swingarm. Additionally, the group has performed at both The 1996 and 1998 NEMO Music Showcase and Conferences. The group has been played on WBCN, WZBC, WDGE, WMUA, and WCUW. The Noise proclaimed their demo tape as one of the "Top Twenty tapes of 1996", and also named it tape of the month in their September 96 issue!! Furthermore, four songs from the CD are featured in the new feature film by New York based Paine Productions, "Babyshakes and The Return Of MacDaddy." Band Photos! |
