History

Maria A. Estrada, President and founder of Connect
With Spanish Language Center, moved to Massachusetts from
her native Ecuador in 1989. Maria A. Estrada founded
L'Mieux (dry goods manufacturing business) at only 20
years of age. Later she founded Sumicom S.A. a whole sale
company distributing products from 3M, GILLETTE and
SONAPAL. Estrada came to the U. S. A. seeking medical
help for her 6 year-old son, Javier. As reported in the
Boston Herald, she was "puzzled by the attitudes she
perceived even among bilingual personnel who otherwise
seemed eager to help." At that time Estrada was also
teaching Spanish at Brookline Adult Education and became
aware through her students questions of the need for
cross-cultural training. Out of this evolved
"Connect With Spanish." Since the company's
founding in 1990, Connect With Spanish has served clients
including Harvard University, Cobra Insurance, Children's
Hospital, Tufts University, Boston University School of
Medicine and the Bostonian Hotel.
