Boston Gay Pride 1996
Saturday, at Boston's Gay Pride, the Digital group was together and
marching. We had about 25 people march with us, and we saw a lot more people
out there in the streets of Boston. Pippa and Karen joined in after ¼ mile, and
they brought the gimmick.... bubbles. Pippa, being the marketing genius she is,
had her bubble dagger! She was like a fairy running down the street waving her
bubbles. :-) Ramón, Pat, Don and E carried the banner the whole route.
Meanwhile, the rest of us made the Bank of Boston group wish they were ahead of
us. There were just too many bubbles for them I think! :-)
It was great to see people scream FOR Digital again. And I heard from a lot of different people that Digital had the best Corporate banner!!!!
There were many people who this was their first Pride, and that they marched with us, well... it really made the day better!!!!!
And let us not forget Tom Arnold, who taped the Digital Pride contingent. Not just tape us marching, but also do some interviews. It is something that will be shown on Boston's Access Cable Channel 3 in the future. It will also be put into the Digital Library, which could be used along with training courses, or just to watch for the fun of it.
Needless to say, this was a great Pride for the DECplus crowd! We were always smiling, we were always having a great time walking down the streets! I don't think anything could have been better!!!!!
Thanks to EVERYONE who helped us get to this point. From Don Bracken who designed the logo, to Ron Glover who got it into branding (which makes it an official logo of Digital), to Eileen Palmer who gave the banner company the kit they needed to make the banner, to all the people who made donations to get the banner made, to those who were not only brave enough to march, but also those who were willing to be interviewed. Because of all you, people will know that there is an organization going on at Digital who help out the bisexual, lesbian, transgendered and gay community. Add in the great reactions we are getting from the heterosexual community, and we have made an impact.
I'd like to end this with a story I was told on Sunday. Pat was telling me that while we were lining up in the street, someone walked up and showed Pat his Digital badge. This guy was on his way to the airport, but had some extra time on his hands so he thought he would walk around Boston. He saw the banner and came over to find out what was going on. Pat told him it was Gay Pride, and it didn't phase him. This gentleman was a Digital employee from Germany. What timing, huh? And it was the banner that caught his attention.
Again, thanks to all of you, we all are able to help out those who might need it. Whether it be for support, for guidance, for friendship, we can be there. You ALL deserve a BIG pat on the back!
Take a look at those who were at gay pride who walked with the DECplus crowd!
