Janary 9, 1999 update

She was pretty agitated when I came in around 1130, which was no surprise. The nurse hadn't properly replaced (if at all) the stopper for her PEG and as a result her stomach contents had drained through the tube all over her. We had a nice long discussion about that.

Once we got her cleaned up and the bedding changed she settled down right away. The nurse of course wanted to give her the Trazadone at twice her usual dose since she was agitated. I of course nixed that, told if you were lying in bed after covered in stuff you would be agitated also. I was able to calm her down just by talking to her and reassuring her. I am starting to wonder if the nurses might be over-medicating her just to make her a quiet patient.

Read from a wonderful book that Pete T. (from the Hawklist) sent us. Called "The Perfect Vehicle". Suze really seemed to follow it (blinking vice just staring off into space). Thanks again Pete. Watched the end of the Paris-Dakar race, wasn't paying too much attention but it looked like a female won the car section. Su was hyped about that.

not much else to say
