Beckett’s Short Plays
LE NEON will stage a collection of brief or fragmentary texts called "dramaticules" (literally "playlets") by Beckett himself.
Beckett coined the term "dramaticules" in the subtitle of Come and Go, the play that inaugurates the series of dramaticules.
This form of minuscule play experimenting with various modes of reduction and omission, conceived and refined by Beckett in his later years, clearly defines a genre of its own.
Taken together, these formidably condensed "textlets" constitute what is certainly one of the most intense and disquieting body of texts conceived for the twentieth-century stage.
Two Shows/Two Locations
The 10 dramaticules are divided into two groups of five plays each, thus constituting two shows entitled Show I and Show II.
Show I will be performed at the Rosslyn Spectrum --- on selected evenings, Show I will also be followed by Show II at the Rosslyn Spectrum.
Show II will also be performed at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Theatre in D.C., located at 2121 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W.
The individual plays that make up Shows I and II are listed below.
Show I --- In English and French
With simultaneous English Translation:
Cascando, Catastrophe, Come and Go, Rockaby, and Rough for Theatre II.
Show II --- In English:
Act Without Words, Footfalls, Krapp’s Last Tape,
Rough for Theatre I, andWhat Where.
