GRAPHICAL
ANALYSIS OF MOTION |
|
TEXTBOOK: CHAPTER 2.1 – 2.4, pages 11 - 19.
OBJECTIVES:
Demonstrate
the ability to calculate average velocity and to solve an equation involving
velocity, displacement, and time.
Distinguish
between (a) distance and displacement (b)
speed and velocity.
Differentiate between
instantaneous velocity (speed) and average velocity (speed).
Use
the factor-label method of unit conversion.
Perform
experiments in which data is collected on position vs time for various types
of motion.
Analyze
the difficulty of obtaining accurate data in the study of motion and state
methods of improving the data collection.
Given a graph of
position as a function of time, recognize in what time intervals velocity or
acceleration is positive, negative, or zero, and can identify of sketch a
graph of velocity as a function of time.
Given an expression a(t) for acceleration as a function of time, plus initial conditions, determine velocity and position as function of time, and find where these quantities achieve their maximum and minimum values.
