OBJECTIVES:
List the four characteristics that sound must have to be considered a 'wave'. Give an example of how sound exhibits each of these characteristics.
Describe the conditions necessary for beats to be produced.
Determine the beat frequency of two sound sources.
Define the terms natural frequency and resonance.
Define the following terms: timbre, dissonance, consonance.
Given a drawing of a standing wave, specify the number of wavelengths and which overtone is represented.
If given the fundamental frequency of a string instrument, a closed pipe, or an open pipe, to be able to determine the first three overtones.
Solve problems regarding the frequency and overtones of musical instruments.
