OBJECTIVES:
Describe the direction of centripetal acceleration and centripetal force.
Give examples of a centripetal force.
Perform an experiment in which you use graphical analysis to study the relationship between centripetal acceleration, angular velocity, and radius for an object moving in a circular path.
Use the mathematical definition of centripetal force and acceleration in problem solving.
Write a qualitative and quantitative statement of Newton's law of universal gravitation.
Use Newton's law of universal gravitation in problem solving situations.
Distinguish between 'g' and 'G' and explain how each is determined.
Compare the significance of an apple falling to the ground with the moon orbiting the earth.
Recognize the connection between the motion of artificial satellites and circular motion around the earth.
Solve problems that relate the orbital velocity of a satellite to its distance from the earth.
