|
TEXTBOOK: Chapter 14; Section 14.7 to 14.12; pages 457 - 470.
OBJECTIVES:
State the four criteria sound must have to be considered a wave phenomenon; describe how sound meets these criteria.
Describe the conditions necessary for beats to be produced; calculate the beat frequency of two sound sources.
Describe what is meant by natural frequency.
Describe the conditions for resonance and explain what occurs in resonance.
Relate a fundamental frequency to its overtones in terms of frequency.
Given a drawing of a standing wave, specify the number of wavelengths and which overtone is represented.
Given the length of a tube or stretched string and for a tube told whether it is open or closed; and told the particular harmonic or overtone being sounded, to determine its frequency.
Describe what is meant by the quality of a musical instrument.
