Fitchburg High is undeafted and the champion of the Elm City
Holiday Festival. But just barely.
The Red Raiders survived a long distance shooting barrage by
St. Peter- Marian in Sundays championship game in Keene
N.H., pulling out an 81-80 win. Juinor guard Gio Graciono led
the way for the Raiders with 28 points, hitting a trio of three -
pointers of his own. The Raiders (5-0) scrapped back from a
43-40 half time deficit to hand the Guardians their first loss
of the season.
Jon Gauvin had 21 points and Keith Leavitt 11 as Fitchburg
had the inside game to counter St.Peter-Marians bombs. Luke
Gordon hit eight threes for a game high 29 points, and Greg
Halligan added seven on his way to 24 points.The Guardians
are 5 -1.

FitchBurg knocks off SPM

Fitchburg fought back from a 14 point deficit yesterday to defeat St.Peter-Marian, 81-80, in the championship game of the
Elm City Tournament in Keene, N.H.
The Red Raiders (5-0) trailed by 14 points with just 5 minutes
to play when Keith Leavitt and Gio Graciano ignited a rally
that put fitchburg up, 79-78, with just ten seconds to play. Mark
Gabriele's two free throws uppe that margin to 81-78.
St.Peter-Marians Greg Halligan,who nailed seven three-pointers,missed a chance to tie it. Matt Brennan knocked in a lay-up as the Guardians (5-1) suffered their first loss of the season.
SPMs Luke Gordon, who hit eight 3-pointers, scored 24 of his game high 29 points in the first half.
Fitchburgs Matt Creamer did a solid job defending Gordon in the second half.Halligan finished with 24. Graciano led Fitchburg with 27 points and Leavitt pulled down 21 rebounds.
