Pottery Workshop Fall '98

A Variety of local clays and tempers were gathered for this workshop. Students were shown the proper proportioning for clay and temper and then were shown basic construction methods such as coiling. At that point Students were left to their own creativity to make anything from pots to pipes to even a couple rattles. Some artifacts from the museum were also used as models for some of the pots made. At the end of the first day the Classes constructions were left to dry. Two weeks later the Students gathered on a Saturday evening to fire their pottery. Here are some pictures from the Firing:

Preheating the pots as venison is roasted over the fire.

Some other critters were roasted as well.

Buried deep in the coals, and deep into the night, the pots were fired

Then, come Morning, from the Ashes emerged the finished Pots.
