Sci-Ed Fact: In several recent famous criminal cases, DNA has been featured because it can be used to help identify persons. The DNA in each one of our body cells is identical, whether the cell comes from blood, saliva, skin, or hair follicles. Another reason for the use of DNA in criminal cases is that statistically, only 1 in 3 million individuals will have the same DNA profile with the exception of identical twins.
