Sci-Ed Fact: Why
are the "greenhouse gases" important? - These gases
influence how much of the sun's energy is absorbed on Earth and
how much is radiated back into space. These gases act like a
giant greenhouse, trapping energy emitted from ground, etc.,
to make Earth inhabitable. But too much of these gases in the
atmosphere has caused global warming. Greenhouse gases include
a variety of air pollutants. Carbon dioxide is the most troublesome
gas. Others are chlorofluorocarbons (CFC's), methane, and nitrogen
oxides. (The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh) |
