Sci-Ed Fact: Marie Sklodowska Curie, a Polish woman who spent most of her professional life in France, played a major role in early studies of radioactivity. A remarkable scientist, she is the only person who has ever won two Nobel prizes in scientific fields. She discovered the elements, radium and polonium; and she is one of the founders of the study of radioactivity, and nuclear physics. (James Trefil)
