Frontiers Magazine - February 11, 1999 vol. 17, Issue 21
Atalanta is a full-color silent film written and directed by Samuael Topiary that is accompanied by live music performed by a five-person chamber ensemble. The project features both live spoken text and text projected as silent film titles to complement the narrative, which is told through choreography, movement and gesture. Atalanta, described as a "lyrical re-envisioning of a classical feminist tale seen through queer contemporary eyes," updates teh classical story of Atalanta -- "the girl who can run as fast as the wind." Atalanta may be seen Fridays and Saturdays, Feb. 12, 13, 19 and 20, at 8pm. Pictured is Samuael Topiary, who plays The Fool, the king's court jester, who falls madly in love with Atalanta.
